SAN PEDRO, Calif. – Aug. 29, 2016 – So many things to do, so little time. This Labor Day weekend’s LA Fleet Week™ is a free, family-fun event with activities for just about everyone. Whether a military buff or science and technology explorer, lover of music or just out for a day of fun and relaxation, visitors will be able to find lots of entertaining and educational things to do Sept. 2-5 along the LA Waterfront.
List of “Things to Do” at LA Fleet Week™.
“First Thursday” welcome party in downtown San Pedro; the San Pedro Business District will host an official kick-off celebration with live entertainment and food trucks on Thursday, Sept. 1, from 6-9 p.m., at the intersection of 6th and Mesa streets.
Tour an active military ship. Tickets are required for free public ship tours, but all pre-order tickets have been reserved. However, there will be some tickets made available on-site at LA Fleet Week™ on a first-come, first-served basis. Tours run all weekend.
Keep an eye on the sky for flyovers. Ever seen a WWII aircraft or search-and-rescue helicopter in action? Aerial demos will happen on the hour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. during LA Fleet Week™. Watch an array of amazing aircraft as they fly from the Vincent Thomas Bridge to the Outer Harbor.
Take in the LA Waterfront area’s rich military history. Did you know that San Pedro is home to many military museums and monuments? Explore history – from Civil War days to WWII to modern day – by creating your own day of exploration using our LA Waterfront attractions map.
Enjoy free entertainment and fireworks. Enjoy live family-friendly entertainment all weekend during ship tour hours, including a Saturday evening concert headlined by Jefferson Starship aboard the Battleship IOWA, courtesy of The Annenberg Foundation. That evening will end with a fireworks show around 9:45 p.m. that can be enjoyed on the deck of Battleship IOWA, in the Downtown Harbor or at Ports O’ Call Village.
Indulge in some tasty food. Hungry? There will be food trucks onsite where you can purchase tasty local fare and refreshing drinks. A short distance from the ships, Ports O’ Call Village, downtown San Pedro and CRAFTED at the Port of Los Angeles offer other great foodie experiences too.
Explore the STEM Expo. Under the big blue tent outside of the Los Angeles World Cruise Center each day during LA Fleet Week™, the STEM Expo offers a great way to expose and inspire children of all ages to elements of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math).
Stop by the Veterans Village. Located at the south end of the World Cruise Center parking lot south of the STEM Expo, this special area will feature booths and information about services available to veterans and their family members.
Conquer the Vincent Thomas Bridge. The Conquer the Bridge 8th Annual Race runs (and walks) from 7-10 a.m. on Monday, September 5. Lace up those running shoes with thousands of other military and non-military participants and conquer the 5.3-mile-long Vincent Thomas Bridge!
