Heal the Bay, one of the most watchful and involved ocean activists programs in and around the Santa Monica Bay, has been busy lately. The most recent hazardous waste spill unto South Bay beaches, dubbed Tamponapalooza, scattered medical waste from El Porto to Marina del Rey when syringes and tampons appeared on the sand September 15th after some rainfall. The origins of the waste have been attributed to Hyperion Waste Water Treatment Plant in Playa del Rey according to HTB.

4th Annual San Pedro International Film Festival: Friday, October 9, 2015 – Sunday, October 11, 2015 A juried presentation of diverse and outstanding films from Vietnam to Cuba, will be shown as part of the three-day San Pedro International Film Festival starting Friday, October 9, 2015 running until Sunday, October 11, 2015. Das Bout – Beach Cities Roller Derby Bout: Friday, October 9, 2015 – 7:00PM – Close Full contact women’s flat track Roller Derby with two closely matched teams that know each other very well. Also, there will be local bands, food, alcohol, vendors, an after party and a unique Friday night experience. All ages are welcome (alcohol with ID). Stan West Blues Band: Friday October 9th & Saturday October 10th, 2015 at George Nakano Theatre, 7:30 PMThe Stan West Blues Band has played clubs all over the world. The band features blues man Stan, who is known for his spontaneity. Even the band doesn’t know what’s coming next and they play with an improvisational style that audiences love. Audience members will sit around the stage at four-seat cocktail tables and enjoy a locally catered dinner during the show. 6th Annual Taste of the Pier & Waterfront: Sunday, October 11, 2015 – 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm The Redondo Pier and King Harbor Associations are pleased to announce the 6th Annual Taste of The Pier, King Harbor & Waterfront. The event is this Sunday October 11th and will include restaurants along the entire Redondo Beach waterfront and includes over 50 restaurants and shops. 2015 JMMF Jimmy Surf Fiesta: Sunday, October 11, 2015 – 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM On Sunday, October 11, 2015 folks will gather once again to celebrate Jimmy’s life and raise funds for JMMF Ocean Therapy Program. It is an annual fundraising contest that goes all day, hence the name Surf Fiesta. The fun and unique format includes all levels of surfers: from first timers to rippers. Look for an all-day Silent Auction and Raffle on the beach. Snag some great surf stuff, and help the Marines, Veterans and Children who benefit from JMMF’s Ocean Therapy Program.
