8th Annual Southern California Slack Key Festival this Sunday

The traditions of slack key music and Hawaiian culture come together Sunday, January 18th at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center for the 8th Annual Southern California Slack Key Festival. One of the most acclaimed Hawaiian concerts to ever leave the islands, this year´s Slack Key Fest takes fans on a Hawaiian musical journey that showcases Grammy nominated slack key artists and an Island Marketplace.

One of the first major, motion pictures to feature slack key music comes from 2011´s “The Descendants”, starring George Clooney. Much of the film´s soundtrack stems from a collection of Hawaiian music called “slack key”, an amalgamation of acoustic guitar and voices that accent a laid back style.
