The city of Torrance hosts its firs triathlon in 30 years this Sunday with a swim, bike and run course that will start and finish on Torrance Beach. The race is called the 15th annual Herbalife Triathlon but this is the first attempt at showcasing a more spectator friendly event in the South Bay with a shorter sprint distance and is a race only one person, man or woman, can win. Sunday’s race will match the women against the men in a handicap format that will award the first pro across the finish line with a $3,000 first place prize. Road closures and live racing are expected to block most traffic around Torrance Beach from 6:00 a.m. to at least noon this Sunday. It is an early morning race that starts at 6:45 a.m. and Torrance Beach is likely your best bet to watch this race.
Below are a list of South Bay weekend activities and events.

47th Oktoberfest at Alpine Village Most people may not realize that Alpine Village’s giant Bavarian-style Oktoberfest already kicked off! Running now through the end of October, it is the largest and oldest Oktoberfest in Southern California. Adhering to German customs, there is traditional fare and authentic beer, music and activities. The massive amounts of beer will be provided by Warsteiner. Plan on going with a group, as the shared picnic tables can be rowdy and it’s good to have a section cornered off for yourself. more info
