Lying deep within the ways we perceive the world is a great connection between line, color, contrast and pattern. Artists may know how to use such attributes in their work, but – talent aside – their analytical clearness can be as sharp as a cold blade. Such clarity offers a chance to look way beyond the surface. In a sense, what happens and what does it mean when concepts are taken from the literal landscape and abstracted by the modern artist. Find out at the new art experience, SILENCE, at ESMoA in El Segundo, California.
Opening Sunday, February 2, 2014, SILENCE asks questions and provides hints of how deep the empire of abstractions runs within us. Is a line, in the viewers mind, just a line? Is photorealistic painting less an abstraction than a blue page? Was there a first abstract painter? Does abstraction always begin with geometrical figures? Find answers to these and other questions amid the silence of SILENCE.
There are many juxtapositions that present an overview of abstraction in SILENCE, including works by Wassiliy Kandinsky, Joseph Beuys, Piet Mondrian, Richard Serra, Andy Warhol and others.
SILENCE opens at ESMoA at 10:00am on Sunday, February 2, with an introduction set for 11:00am and engaging family-friendly activities for all ages offered throughout the day. The art experience is scheduled to run through May 4.
