The King Harbor side of the Redondo Pier received a new tenant in 2014 that replaced Delzano’s by the Sea, an Italian and seafood restaurant that also had ownership ties to its under appreciated sea-side neighbor Lou-e-Louey’s. R10 Social House officially announced their grand opening earlier this week on Monday but its doors have been open to the South Bay since at least last December. The name itself comes from an actual deep-water buoy (R-10) located off the Redondo harbor that often marks the last leg of the Catalina Classic paddleboard race. Instead of happy hour, it’s social hour at R10 and their farm to table style cuisine that uses locally sourced foods is built to share. Stepping away from the craft beer trend just a smidge, R10 boasts a bevy of hand-made cocktails that are rumored to be made by a professional mixologist. Most of their hand-crafted cocktails start out at $11 but may be available for slightly lower fare during their social hour Monday through Friday, 5:00 – 7:00p.m.
It’s a large space with two stories that’s been fitted with re-claimed wooded walls, big booths with seaworthy views, and in general has a clean, comfortable, Eco-friendly design. The first floor has a small bar with tables and high-chairs while the second floor opens to a wider look complete with a dance floor and bar. The drink menu on the second floor is a touch more robust with almost double the draft beer selections.
The food menu is seasonal and ranges from about $9 to $22. Some items are market driven, so prices will naturally fluctuate. The selection is minimal, there isn’t an over abundance of choices but two standouts that are worth a share are the Jidori Chicken & Waffles and pork sliders.
R10 Social House brings a bit of culinary flare to Redondo Pier’s King Harbor and could make a suitable destination for a Super Bowl viewing or even a Valentine’s Day rendezvous. It’s easily accessible via the strand and ample parking surrounds R10. It’s located at 179 N. Harbor Drive, Redondo Beach close to Captain Kidd’s Fish Market.
