The corner of Pacific Coast Highway and Palos Verdes Boulevard was an A-Frame style self service burger bar called Woody’d Smorgasburger in the 1950s, a Chicago for Ribs early in the 21st century, and most recently an upscale American restaurant called Oliver’s Cafe. Rock & Brews got its start in the Midwestern part of the South Bay, El Segundo, by mixing craft beer, classic rock n roll decor, and an open air biergarten on the Gundo’s Main street. Partly owned by Gene Simmons of KISS, Rock & Brews will open its second location in Redondo Beach’s Riviera Village some time in April. Although this location has a Redondo Beach address, it needed the approval from the city of Torrance according to the Daily Breeze.
Today Simmon’s is widely recognized as a family man reality TV Star with a cult like rock n roll past that stings with attitude and a sound respect for capitalism. He’s a perfect brand for adults with kids who want to enjoy quality brew, vintage rock n roll posters, and large TV screens. Kind of like a conservative version of Hard Rock Cafe (the one in Las Veagas). This is a venture that could easily go national and Rock & Brew locations at LAX and Denver may soon be a reality.
