Naja’s Place 9th IPA Festival: It is a week long event that started last Wednesday and caters to the most effervescent beer seasoning around, hops. Naja’s IPA Fest is serious business, all types of IPAs (India Pale Ale) and DPAs (think IPA on steroids) and specialty beers will be on draft from local South Bay brewers as well as hop-centric beers from all over California and around the country. Fiesta Hermosa: Saturday, May 27 to Monday, May 29, 2017 – 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM The unofficial start of yet another glorious South Bay summer makes some noise this Memorial Day Weekend as Fiesta Hermosa celebrates its 45th year. Just like years in the past, crowds are expected to swell well above the 100,000 mark to what is arguably North America’s largest Arts and Crafts Fair. Thus, the best mode of transportation is a beach cruiser or a pair of flip-flops. more info
Battleship IOWA Presents: Memorial Day Music Festival: Saturday, May 27, 2017 – 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM Saturday May 27th Battleship IOWA presents a Memorial Day Music Festival featuring live bands; Purple Sugar, Special Blend, Murder City Roadshow & DJ Pie. The festival will include food trucks, vintage vehicles, reenactors, a Sailor’s Bar, and more. Battleship IOWA tour admission is free for all veterans, reservists, retired, and active military (with valid I.D.) through Memorial Day Weekend (May 27 to May 29). Grunion Fish-tival at Cabrillo Marine Aquarium: Saturday, May 27 – 8:00 PM to Midnight Stay out late for an all hands on deck Grunion bash at Cabrillo Marine Aquarium. CMA celebrates this wondrous Southern California ritual with all types of fishy thrills: Hatch grunion eggs, participate in grunion arts and crafts, watch a classic grunion video, interact with grunion researchers, touch live tidepool animals and see the many fish and other live animals in the Aquarium. John Brown’s Body at Saint Rocke: Saturday, May 27 – 9:00 PM to Close While most American reggae bands tackle typical reggae themes (such as religion and marijuana), JBB act more like an indie band, writing songs that use the vocabulary of reggae to express their own experiences. Redondo Beach Memorial Day Service & Elks BBQ: Monday, May 29, 2017 – 1:00 PM Redondo Beach will observe Memorial Day 2017 at the Veterans Memorial in beautiful Veterans Park by the Redondo Pier at 1 PM on Monday May 29th. The solemn observance will include reflection and remembrance, music, commentary and honors to all those members of the armed forces who paid the ultimate sacrifice in our nations wars. The service will be followed by a BBQ picnic sponsored by the Redondo Elks Lodge #1378 in the Elks parking lot south of the Lodge next to Veterans Park. The BBQ is free for all veterans and members of the military,police officers and firefighters. more info
Green Hills Memorial Park’s 32nd annual Memorial Day Observance: Monday, May 29, 2017 – 10:00 AM Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes hosts its 32nd annual “Memorial Day Observance” on Memorial Day (Monday). The event include aerial maneuvers performed by both current and vintage aircraft, delivery of the American and military branch flags by the 21st Century Skydiving team; music be provided by the Palos Verdes Symphonic Band. General event parking will be at Rolling Hills Covenant Church located at 2222 Palos Verdes Drive North, Rolling Hills Estates.
