South Bay Weekend: Adios Poop Deck, Absolution Brewery Opening, Chalk Art, SpringFest, & More

Sometimes there’s a bar, and then sometimes, there’s another bar. Downtown Hermosa Beach loses a touch of its ever elusive, tacky but charming beach-side manner Tuesday, April 29th when the Poop Deck officially closes its doors. Patio art, pub-crawls, bar-stool veterans, bouncers, beach cruisers, strand views, flip-cup, .25 cent cigarretes, and draft Budweiser are some of the memories we conjure up when thinking about the Poop Deck. It’s a place that can find a way into casual South Bay conversation from Baby Boomers to Millennials, and back again. Surely the stories about the Poop Deck will grow and morph into classic yarns as the 21st century moves on, but what will be missed is the idea that a business like the Poop Deck can still exist and endure. What the Poop Deck did best (in our opinion), is manage to encapsulate a unique slice of South Bay beach culture and keep it one place from 1957 to 2014.
