South Bay Weekend: BAM, Phantom of the Opera, Rancho Adobe Museum, Ocean Bar, Happy Harbor Halloween, Marina Cookout & More

Head on outside the comfortable confines of the South Bay this Sunday and experience the 5th edition of the Beer Art & Music Festival happening at Santa Monica’s 18th Street Arts Center from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. BAM Fest attendees can spend a Sunday afternoon sipping in the sun, engaging with artists, and exploring significant artworks while listening to live music. BAM celebrates 18th Street Arts Center’s rich legacy over the past 25 years and will include everything from performance art and video art installations to gourmet food from local restaurants and food trucks, live music by 3 bands as well as artisanal wine, spirits, and specialty beers from over 40 craft breweries. The 40+ breweries range from big to small, including the popular and widely known New Belgium Brewing Company and Angel City Brewing Company to newly launched breweries including Three Weavers Brewing Company, whose main goal is to cultivate community through beer. Another new brewery on the scene, Santa Monica Brew Works, will also be on tap. Tickets include unlimited beer tastings and are $50 at the door, or $45 if purchased in advance. All proceeds benefit 18th Street Arts Center.

Old Town Music Hall: Phantom of the Opera: Friday, October 24, 2014 – Sunday, October 26, 2014 Where classic silent films have been regularly scheduled in an authentic 1920s movie house with the Mighty Wurlitzer accompanying since 1968. Get your classic horror movie fix this weekend as the 1925 silent version of “Phantom of the Opera” with Lon Chaney creeps upon the screen at the Old Town Music Hall in El Segundo. more info

Dominguez Rancho Adobe Museum: Pumpkin Patch : Saturday, October 25, 2014 – 1:00 – 3:00 PM Check out some historic California this Saturday for a fun filled afternoon from 1pm to 3pm when the Rancho is turned into a pumpkin patch. You can pick the pumpkin of your choosing and decorate it. Get spooky with paint, pens, stickers and more. If you’d like you can enter it into the decorating contest and win a prize. more info

Happy Harbor Halloween at the Port of Los Angeles: Saturday, October 25, 2014 – 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM The Port of Los Angeles is holding two Happy Harbor Halloween festivals, featuring carnival-style games, crafts, music, face painting, storytelling and more. All are invited to dress in costume. In San Pedro, the event will be on the Promenade adjacent Harbor Boulevard between Third and Fifth streets. In Wilmington, the festival will be at Waterfront Park, 604 West C St. at the West Plaza Pavilion. 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free.

24th World Famous Pumpkin Race in Manhattan Beach: Sunday, October 26, 2014 – Noon – 5:00 PM The World Famous Pumpkin Race brings their rolling, kinetic pumpkin-mobiles back to Manhattan Beach for an annual 24th time. Not only can pumpkins be smashed, put into a pie, or made to flavor seasonal brew, they can also race. This October 26th, right after the Sketchers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk, customized racing pumpkins will bound down the hill just above the Manhattan Beach Pier. Single elimination qualifying races start at noon and got till at least 5:00 p.m. This is a free event and anyone with some creative sparkle and a little elbow grease can participate in the races. more info
