Next weekend SPIFFest returns to San Pedro’s historic 6th Street district, a three-day film fest that aims to celebrate the diverse culture and community of San Pedro with a wide spectrum of independent film, documentaries, and shorts.The San Pedro International Film Festival is making its fourth exhibition Friday October 9th through Sunday October 11th with cinema that include five short film blocks, including a Charles Bukowski short film block and the 2016 Lunafest Program, music videos, computer-based discoveries in the fields of special effects & filming and much more. Festival goers can attend Q&A with filmmakers and gain access to VIP events following feature film screenings. SPIFFest

From Rio To Bahia Brazilian Carnaval Night: Friday, October 2, 2015 – 9:PM – 2:AM Who said you need go to Brazil or wait until February to enjoy the contagious energy of the Brazilian Carnaval? Samba And More Entertainment invite the South Bay to the most fun and electric Carnaval event. Performances by: beautiful Samba Dancers, batucada drummers with an electric drum circle, Samba And More Band & DJ Yukicito. Delicious Brazilian food provided by Panelas Brazil Cuisine. Location is The Boogie(New venue at the Redondo Beach Pier, down the stairs right next to Brixton) at 100 Fisherman’s Wharf in Redondo Beach. Tickets are $10 at the door.

Manhattan Beach Hometown Fair 2015 in the South Bay One of the best-kept secrets in the South Bay is happening this weekend! The 43rd Annual Manhattan Beach Hometown Fair is being held on October 3-4th, 2015. The popularity of the fair is explained by the fact that it attracts everyone under the sun, from families and art lovers, to free speech advocates and fair food fanatics, and those that would rather hang out in the South Bay’s favorite Beer Garden. 9th Annual Great Hermosa Beach Glass Pumpkin Patch 2015: Saturday, October 3, 2015 – Sunday, October 4, 2015 – 11am- 6pm For sale and display hundreds of hand made glass pumpkins priced from $25-$125 (credit cards accepted). Proceeds will directly benefit the local contributing glass artists. This years location is Clark Building at 861 Valley Drive in Hermosa Beach.

Hermosa Beach Hotdogger Longboard Contest: Saturday, October 3, 2015 – 7:00 AM Saturday October 3rd, The Hermosa Beach Hotdogger Championship presented by Subaru Pacific will be taking place south-side of the Hermosa Beach Pier. Hotdogging, nose rides, radical wipe-outs and classic (single-fin) cut backs are just some of the maneuvers that will once again return to Hermosa Beach. 3rd Annual Brewer’s Chili Cook-Off: Saturday, October 3, 2015 – 4:00 PM Select Beer Store in Redondo Beach will be featuring local breweries around LA and Orange counties and inviting the brewers in for an epic chili cook-off. You get to try their chili and vote for your favorite. Chili tasting starts at 4pm. Plus, you get to enjoy beers from each of the breweries that are participating. LACMA On-Site: Family Art Workshops Get the LACMA workshop experience without the drive. Los Angeles County Museum of Art artists are coming to make a special on-site visit at the Katy Geissert Civic Center Library in Torrance to teach a family art workshop. The class is designed to stimulate critical thinking, support creative expression and provide meaningful experiences with art for artists of all ages.
