South Bay Weekend: California Love, 26th Coastal Clean Up Day, Bike to Surf Week, Alpine Village, Cabrillo Beach, Heal the Bay, Film Series, Golf Tournament & Light My Fire

California Love, not the remix by Tupac Shakur, is the most recent bottle release from Torrance’s Smog City Brewery. Its specific release date of September 9th pays homage to the birth of California as a state and the ingredients help integrate two imagined communities with polar identities and feuding boundary lines: Southern California & Northern California. Brewed with citrus peel (SoCal) and a some Pinot Noir grape must (NorCal), California Love is a complex mix of hops, fruit, oak and an aroma that smells uniquely Californian. It’s currently on-sale at Smog City, $7 per bottle.

More California love makes it way up and down our beaches this Saturday when volunteers, organizers and sponsors canvass the coastline for the 26th Coastal Clean Up Day this Saturday, September 19th. From 9:00 am to noon more than 10,000 Southland volunteers are expected to join this year’s California Coastal Cleanup Day, along creeks, beaches and highways. Big South Bay sites that will have large volunteer groups are Torrance Beach, Hermosa Beach and Redondo Beach. Around 8:00am scuba divers will comb the waters below Redondo Pier in search of trash and debris. www.healthebay.org
