South Bay Weekend: CMA, Veteran’s Day Events, 80s Music, Torrance Theatre Co., The Addams Family, Pier to Pier Run, Beer & Tequila & Angels Gate Cultural Center

Before the holidays take over your leisure time and take away from your checking account, take a field trip to San Pedro’s Cabrillo Marine Aquarium. Many of its weekend activities are free and you are bound to learn something new about the ocean and our local Santa Monica Bay. On the first Saturday of each month, join CMA Educators and volunteers in maintaining the Cabrillo Native Garden and learn more about its plant and animal inhabitants. Also join other volunteers in a beach cleanup clearing the shore of marine debris.

The Addams Family Musical: Friday, November 6, 2015 – Sunday, November 8, 2015 3-D Theatrical Company brings its Broadway like musical of The Addams Family to Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center Friday through Sunday for a little post Halloween entertainment. RSVP to see what happens when daughter Wednesday brings a “normal” boy and his stuffy parents to the party. This original story is based upon The Addams Family characters created by Chas Addams for his hilarious single-paneled “gag” cartoons. 80’s Fridays at The Standing Room: Friday, November 6, 2015 – 9:00 PM Berry Bly and company are happy to present the grand opening of “80’s Fridays” at Standing Room this Friday night featuring the world famous band, the M80’s. This party will be every Friday night at the Standing Room with live performances and all 80’s music. Come experience the best weekly 80’s night in the South Bay. Doors open at 9pm and the show starts at 10pm. The Standing Room is located at 1320 Hermosa Ave in Hermosa Beach.

Open Studios Day at Angels Gate Cultural Center: Saturday, November 7, 2015 – 11:00am to 2:00pm On November 7th, Angels Gate Cultural Center continues to honor its Veterans and celebrates its 30th Anniversary by resuming the Open Studios Day (fall event). Beginning at 11am and ending at 2pm, various patriotic festivities include the special anniversary exhibition’s opening reception, workshops for all ages, live music and dance performances, tours of the Fort MacArthur Museum and the Center, and a scavenger hunt on our historical WWII-era campus. Torrance Theatre Company & Friends of the Torrance Theatre Company: Coney Island Christmas: Saturday, November 7, 2015 – Sunday, November 8, 2015 Torrance Theatre Company kicks off their holiday show season with a heartwarming gift for all ages called “Coney Island Christmas.” The show begins this weekend and the Saturday show looks to be sold out already. The story takes place circa 1935, in Coney Island of course, and follows the Abramowitz family as their young daughter explores her Jewish identity when she gets cast to play Jesus in the school’s Christmas pageant. Torrance Theatre Co. will present “Coney Island Christmas” at the following location: 1316 Cabrillo Avenue. more info

Pier to Pier Run : Saturday, November 7, 2015 – 8:00 AM Joe Charles, affectionately known as G.I. Joe, is running his Pier to Pier Run, with help from Village Runner, this Saturday morning and he’s most defineitely “Waitin’ on you!” Joe recently suffered a stroke but is back on the road to recovery and plans to be out in full force Saturday morning looking to inspire and motivate. The course begins at the Hermosa Beach Pier and heads North to the Manhattan Beach Pier and then finishes back at the Hermosa Pier. Registration is $40. more info

4th Annual Veteran’s Day Festival : Saturday, November 7, 2015 – 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM Battleship Iowa in San Pedro hosts an all day festival featuring a special Army helicopter landing on board, a ceremonial firing of 5″ guns, 1940’s era swing music, food trucks, vintage vehicles, historic military reenactments, sailor’s bar, pin ups and more. Savor the Flavor, a Beer and Tequila Extravaganza: Saturday, November 7, 2015 – 5:30 PM – 10:00 PM Savor the Flavor Beer and Tequila Extravaganza returns to the Hermosa Beach Kiwanis Club this Saturday. Highlights include live music by the Dietz Brothers Band, a Mexican food buffet (6:30 to 9:00), games and raffle prizes. There will be an unlimited tasting of some of the finest craft beers, particularly from local zip codes. A tequila for tasting to complement the beer helps to Savor the Flavor… Be sure to get your tickets soon as they may sell out! Visit with a Veteran: Sunday, November 8, 2015, 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM 2015 is a significant year, as it marks the 70th anniversary of the end of WWII and the 50th anniversary since U.S. ground troops arrived in Vietnam. The South Bay is invited to join the Torrance Historical Society to honor our veterans. Pull-up a chair and visit with a Veteran of World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam, the Gulf War, Iraq, or Afghanistan. Torrance Historical Society & Museum is located at 1345 Post Avenue. more info
