The Redondo Pier Association hosts one of the longest running kite festivals in Southern California this Sunday, March 8th from noon to 5p.m. The Kite Festival has been produced by the Sunshine Kite Company since 1974 and is one of the more visually stunning events around the South Bay. Awards will be presented in several categories: Best Hand-Made Kite, Highest Flying Kite, and the Youngest and Youngest at Heart Kite Flyers. The public is invited to help launch a massive 25’ by 14’ foot kite too.
One of the biggest events of the year on the Redondo Pier not only includes the ancient art of kite flying, but is accompanied by other eclectic events like the 12th Annual Redondo Throw Down Yo-Yo Competition and the 9th Annual Craig’s Hot Dog on a Stick Eating Contest. Winner of this glutinous challenge receives a cash prize. The cost to attend this event is FREE! Be sure and bring a high resolution smartphone camera as kite flying against the backdrop of Redondo Pier is quite spectacular and makes for an awesome social share. more info
