South Bay Weekend: Select Beer Store, Pier to Pier Run, Kites, Uber, & More

The rainy season appears to have been swept away by golden sunshine, warm temps, and a South Bay shoreline that appears to have grown some wave-shaping sandbars. No doubt most folks in and around the beach cities will invade the outdoor lifestyle this weekend and we suspect most beach volleyball courts to be picked over by noon Saturday, from Torrance Beach to El Porto. The most happening space this weekend will be at the beach but there’s never a dull moment in the South Bay, so read below for some events and activities to supplement your weekend adventure.

This Saturday Select Beer Store in Redondo Beach celebrates its 2nd anniversary with an all day tap-takeover from various craft breweries around Los Angeles. Mainly kegs from South Bay and LA based craft breweries will be poured. Two of the newest craft breweries to claim a South Bay zip code, Absolution Brewing Co. in Torrance & King Harbor Brewing Co. in Redondo Beach, will get a chance to make first impressions amongst a thirsty weekend crowd.

Pier to Pier Run/Walk: From Hermosa Beach Pier to Manhattan Beach Pier: Saturday, March 08, 2014 – 7:00 AM – 10:30 AM The Spring Pier to Pier Run/Walk from Hermosa Beach Pier to Manhattan Beach Pier is back! Run as fast as you can on the sand, 1st & 2nd place winners (male & female) will receive a gift certificate to Village Runner. 40th Annual Festival of the Kite on the Redondo Pier The Redondo Pier Association hosts one of the longest running kite festivals in Southern California this Sunday, March 9th from noon to 5p.m. The Kite Festival has been produced by the Sunshine Kite Company since 1974 and is one of the more visually stunning events around the South Bay. Awards will be presented in several categories: Best Hand-Made Kite, Best Ground Display, Highest Flying Kite, and the Youngest and Youngest at Heart Kite Flyers. Arbor Day Celebration: Saturday, March 08, 2014 – 9:30am – 12:30pm Join hundreds of volunteers to plant and care for trees in El Segundo on March 8th, as Tree Musketeers celebrates Arbor Day.
