South Bay Weekend: Special Olympics World Games Benefits, Mustache Harbor, Film Festival, Anniversary Brew, Art on the Plaza, Opera Cinematic Series

Many South Bay cities in and around the bubble have offered their services as Host Towns for upcoming Special Olympics World Games Los Angeles that take place around the city July 25th to August 2nd. The cities of El Segundo, Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach and Redondo Beach have been officially selected to participate in the Host Town program from July 21st – 24th. As Host Towns, these South Bay Beach cities will play host to ten Special Olympics delegations (which include Special Olympics athletes and coaches). It gives a chance for participating international athletes and coaches to soak up a little South Bay culture before they compete.

Saint Rocke and The Lighthouse Cafe in Hermosa Beach both host fundraising events this weekend for the Special Olympics World Games and we’ve listed them below. Billed as the largest sports and humanitarian event anywhere in the world for 2015, this year’s Special Olympics bring approximately 7,000 athletes and 3,000 coaches from 177 countries. www.la2015.org

LA Harbor International Film Festival: Thursday, April 09, 2015 – Sunday, April 12, 2015 The annual LA Harbor International Film Festival (LAHIFF), founded in 2003, is a non-juried, non-competitive film festival that aims to entertain, enlighten and educate the cinematic audience by showcasing film and video that reflects the harbor and all that it embraces: shipping and commerce, fishing, sailing, water sports, sea life and the area’s rich ethnic and cultural influences. NITE OUT Hermosa – Benefitting Special Olympics World Games w/ MUSTACHE HARBOR: Friday, April 10, 2015 – 9:00 PM – Close Yacht Rock docks top-side at Saint Rocke Friday night when the quintessential hits from the 70s & 80s are performed by Mustache Harbor. The mission of Mustache Harbor is to create a Soft Rock Explosion the likes of which has not been seen since the days when Christopher Cross, Steely Dan, Ace, Kenny Loggins and The Little River Band created A.M. 1-Year Anniversary Celebration at King Harbor Brewing Co.: Saturday, April 11, 2015 – 2:00 – 6:00 PM On Saturday, April 11, 2015 join the crew at King Harbor Brewing Co. for a One Year Anniversary Celebration you won’t forget. Malaga Cove Art Lawn Show: Saturday, April 11, 2015 – Sunday, April 12, 2015 – 9:00 am – 5:00 pm Spend an afternoon viewing local paintings, sculpture, and jewelry, and talk with the artists who made them on the lawn at Malaga Cove Plaza this Saturday & Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. When you find that perfect painting, photograph, ceramic vase or piece of jewelry, you can purchase it with confidence knowing that it is a unique expression of an artist’s vision. Approximately 30 artists affiliated with the Palos Verdes Art Center will show and sell their ceramics, jewelry and acrylic, oil and watercolor paintings. Special Olympics fundraiser at The Lighthouse: Saturday, April 11, 2015 – 3:00 – 8:00 PM A fundraising concert for Special Olympics World Games takes place at The Lighthouse, 30 Pier Ave. in Hermosa Beach, on Saturday, April 11. There is a $5 donation at the door. Perfekt Storm (4:30 to 6 p.m.) and WTFB (6 to 8 p.m.) will perform. For more information, call (310) 376-9833.
