38th Annual Manhattan Beach Hometown Fair October 2nd-3rd, 2010

The 38th Annual Manhattan Beach Hometown Fair begins tomorrow! For many of us, this special event brings back memories of funnel cake, pet goldfish (and their immediate passing), and the rowdy punk rock displays at Battle of the Bands. The Hometown Fair is both a generator of lifelong memories and a uniting force within our community. Local residents happily pledge their time and effort to run the entire fair and donate food profits to neighborhood non-profits. Whether you’re in the mood to volunteer or check out the festivities with friends and family, the Manhattan Beach Hometown Fair presents a wondrous opportunity to play outside and remember why we truly love where we live.

The fair will kick-off early Saturday morning with the annual Manhattan Beach Hometown 10k run, which weaves around Manhattan Beach and collects thousands of participants of all ages. As always, our favorite booths and activities will be in full force, churning out painted faces, tri-tip sandwiches, caramel apples and enough arts and crafts to fill any holiday decor quota. Not sure where to direct your foam finger? Tote your toddlers over to the Tot Lot to race in the Toddler Trot. Try impressing your current sweetheart at the Egg Toss or Chili-Cook Off. You can even get vocal in the designated free speech area where any issue is up for discussion. Find post-political/environmental/public safety debate solace at the Beer & Wine Gardens, where many have boldly gone before in search of a cool buzz. Whatever your endeavor this weekend, be sure to check out the fair for delicious food, fun and everything under the sun!
