South Bay Weekend: Pato Banton, “Surf’s Up” the Movie, Japanese Food Festival, Hairspray the Musical, Bard’s Ticket, Main Street Car Show, Horton’s Hayride & The Wiseguys Big Band Machine

The last round of this summer’s Hermosa Beach concerts end on a positive note with when the 53 year-old Pato Banton delivers his reggae infused styles that always incorporate messages of love and spiritual freedom. A reggae artist since the 1980s, Banton has performed worldwide. Born in London and raised in Birmingham, England, Pato Banton has toured with perennial reggae artists like Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers, Burning Spear, Dennis Brown and Steel Pulse. Pato and his band, The Now Generation, along with opening act Big Mountain play south of the Hermosa Beach Pier this Sunday around 4:30 p.m.

Saturday night the Hermosa Beach concert stage converts itself into an outdoor movie theatre when they show Sony Pictures’ “Surf’s Up” starting at 7:00 p.m. The event is sponsored in part by Hermosa Beach Friends of the Parks.

Hairspray the Musical : Friday, August 21, 2015 – Saturday, August 22, 2015 – 8:00 PM Based on John Waters’ 1988 film, “Hairspray”, the story takes place in Baltimore during the 1960s when TV dance shows were all the rage. Tracy Turnblad dreams of winning a role on one of these shows. When she does, she uses her new fame to integrate the show, much to the chagrin of the producers. Shakespeare by the Sea at Point Fermin & Bard’s Box A true gift for all ages since the cost of admission is free and there maybe no other form of entertainment as personable as watching live actors perform under the wits of public space and open air. Shakespeare by the Sea makes it final stop of the summer this Friday (8/21) and Saturday (8/22) at Point Fermin Park in San Pedro featuring two of Shakespeare’s most beloved comedies: “The Tempest” , an ocean-borne, magical tale of romance woven with rich poetry; and “As You Like It”, the enchanting take of love set in the Forest of Arden. more info

18th Annual El Segundo Main Street Car Show: Saturday, August 22, 2015 – 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM
The El Segundo Police Officers Association is proud to announce the 18 annual Main Street Car Show. This popular event is free to the public and will take place on Saturday, August 22 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the 100 to 500 blocks of Main Street. The Main Street Car Show is open to all pre-1975 custom classic street rods, antique sports cars, race cars and special interest cars. more info

2015 Summer of Free Music Concerts on the Pier – Saturday, August 22, 2015 – 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm For over 20 years, the Redondo Pier Association has sponsored the biggest free summer concert series in the South Bay of Los Angeles. Summer of Music featuring more than 20 bands, returns on Thursday, July 2, 2015 and continues every Thursday and Saturday through Saturday, September 5, 2015. This Saturday live music from Amber Foxx (Rockabilly) perform from 6 to 8pm on the Redondo Pier, bring a chair and or blankets. 2nd Annual Horton’s Hayride: Saturday, August 22, 2015 – Noon – 10:00 PM Rockabilly legends Reverend Horton Heat are back with their high-octane Rock & Roll ceremony, the Second Annual Horton’s Hayride. Very few artists deliver a more blistering statement onstage than the mighty Reverend Horton Heat. This year’s event has moved to a much larger location at the Port Of Los Angeles in San Pedro, adjacent to the SS Lane Victory, and features another stellar line up including The Cherry Poppin’ Daddies, Nekromantix, The Henchmen, Big Sandy, Unknown Hinson, Deke Dickerson, The Cadillac Tramps and many more! Manhattan Beach Concerts in the Park: Sunday, August 23, 2015 – 5:00 – 7:00 PM Manhattan Beach concerts in the park run from the first Sunday in July through Labor Day weekend live at Polliwog Park. In the past they have featured such artists as the Doo-Wah Riders and Fantastic Diamond, as well as a host of other talented musicians. These performances are open seating and free to the public. This Sunday “The Wiseguys Big Band Machine ” (Swing Band) perform live at Polliwog Park (1601 Manhattan Beach Blvd Manhattan Beach from 5pm to 7pm.
